When I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2008 with a degree in Business Administration, I could never have predicted how I long I would sit on the couch applying for marketing jobs. One day I got an email that said “Teach English in Korea.” I applied on a whim and a month later, I was there doing it!
After the year, I never looked back. I got my TEFL in Barcelona then wound up teaching in Huizhou, China. The next year, my sister joined me and we taught in Beijing.
From there, I was sick of Asia and needed to go to Istanbul ASAP!
After 2 years there, I had to get back to Asia. I am currently teaching in Myanmar.
“Small friends” comes from the Chinese word for children- xiǎo péngyǒu- 小朋友. I think small friends is a beautifully simple way to view children. After all of the hours that I’ve spent in the classroom with mine, I do see them as small friends.
The Small Friends section of my blog will focus on the fun activities, games and crafts I do with my “small friends” here in Mandalay (and beyond).
